Redmi vs Infinix vs Tecno vs Samsung: Which Is Better in Nigeria?

Redmi vs Infinix vs Tecno vs Samsung – Infinix Hot 70 Pro at Mphones Port Harcourt

“Redmi or Infinix, which one should I buy?” is one of the questions we hear most at our shop on Airport Road. Sometimes it is Redmi vs Tecno, sometimes Infinix vs Tecno, and sometimes someone just wants to know if Samsung is worth the extra money.

The honest answer is that no brand is best at everything. Each one is strong in different areas, and the right choice depends on your budget and how you use your phone. This guide compares the four brands on the things Nigerian buyers care about: battery, camera, performance, software updates, after-sales support and price. We then put real phones head to head at two popular budgets, using our actual store prices from 24 October 2026.

The short answer

  • Choose Redmi (Xiaomi) if you want big batteries, bright screens and good all-round value.
  • Choose Infinix if you want the most features for your money, fast charging and gaming-friendly screens.
  • Choose Tecno if selfies, video calls and camera features matter most to you.
  • Choose Samsung if you want a phone that gets software updates for years and holds its value.

Brand-by-brand: strengths and weaknesses

Redmi (Xiaomi)

Redmi phones are known for large batteries and sharp, bright displays. The Xiaomi Redmi 15 has a 7,000mAh battery, and the Redmi Note 17 goes up to 7,700mAh. Xiaomi’s software, HyperOS, has lots of features, though it comes with some pre-installed apps you may want to remove.

Good at: battery life, display quality, value at every price level.
Watch out for: pre-installed apps; some budget models charge slower than Infinix or Tecno at the same price.

Infinix

Infinix packs a lot of hardware into each price point: more RAM, higher refresh-rate screens and fast charging. The Infinix Hot 70 has 45W charging and a 6,000mAh battery at ₦223,900, and the Infinix Hot 70 Pro brings a 144Hz screen and 5G.

Good at: specs for the money, fast charging, gaming.
Watch out for: shorter software update support than Samsung.

Tecno

Tecno’s Camon series is built around cameras, especially front cameras. The Tecno Camon 40 Pro has a 50MP selfie camera and a 50MP main camera with OIS. Tecno and Infinix are sister brands under the same parent company, Transsion, and both are serviced through Carlcare centres across Nigeria.

Good at: selfies, video calls, camera features, wide service network.
Watch out for: like Infinix, update support is shorter than Samsung’s.

Samsung

Samsung usually gives you less hardware for the same naira, but more years of use. Samsung promises six major Android upgrades on models such as the Galaxy A17 5G, Galaxy A27 and Galaxy A36 5G. That matters for banking apps and security. Samsung phones also tend to keep their resale value better.

Good at: long software support, build quality, resale value.
Watch out for: slower charging and less RAM than rivals at the same price.

Head to head: phones around ₦215,000 to ₦240,000

This is one of the busiest price ranges in Nigeria. Here is how the four brands compare at Mphones today:

Samsung Galaxy A08 Infinix Hot 70 Tecno Spark 50 Xiaomi Redmi 15
Price (variant) ₦215,000 (4/64GB) ₦223,900 (4/128GB) ₦226,000 (4/128GB) ₦238,900 (6/128GB)
Display 6.7″ HD+ LCD 6.78″ HD+, 120Hz 120Hz 6.9″ FHD+, up to 144Hz
Battery / charging 6,000mAh 6,000mAh / 45W 7,000mAh / 18W 7,000mAh / 33W

Main / selfie camera 50MP / 8MP 50MP / 8MP 50MP / 8MP 50MP / 8MP
Splash resistance Not listed IP64 Not listed IP64

Our verdict at this budget: the Redmi 15 is the best all-rounder here: a 7,000mAh battery, the sharpest screen of the four (FHD+ at up to 144Hz) and 6GB RAM for ₦238,900. The Tecno Spark 50 matches that 7,000mAh battery for less money, but 18W charging is slow when light only comes for a short time. The Infinix Hot 70 is the pick if charging speed and performance matter, because 45W tops up its 6,000mAh battery much faster and the Helio G100 Ultimate is the strongest chip in this group. The Galaxy A08 is the cheapest way into Samsung, with a 6,000mAh battery, but 64GB fills up quickly, so consider the 128GB version at ₦250,000.

Head to head: phones around ₦370,000 to ₦395,000

At this level, the differences between brands become clearer.

Xiaomi Redmi Note 17 Tecno Camon 40 Pro Infinix Hot 70 Pro Samsung Galaxy A36 5G

Our verdict at this budget: – Redmi Note 17 for the biggest battery and screen. – Tecno Camon 40 Pro for selfies and 256GB of storage. – Infinix Hot 70 Pro for gaming and 5G on a budget. – Galaxy A36 5G for long-term use, IP67 protection and six promised Android upgrades.

Redmi vs Infinix: which is better?

If you are choosing between Redmi and Infinix, ask yourself one question: do you care more about battery size or charging speed?

Redmi usually gives you a bigger battery and a better screen. Infinix usually gives you faster charging, more RAM and a higher refresh rate for the same money. For heavy social media users and people who are often away from power, Redmi is the safer pick. For gamers and people who want the most specs, Infinix is hard to beat.

Redmi vs Tecno: which is better?

Choose Tecno if your front camera matters, for example for video calls, content creation or selfies. Choose Redmi if you care more about battery life and screen brightness. Tecno also has the advantage of Carlcare’s wide service network for repairs.

Infinix vs Tecno: what is the difference?

Both brands share a parent company and many parts, so the hardware is often similar. The difference is focus: Infinix leans towards performance and gaming, while Tecno leans towards cameras and design. If two phones cost the same, pick the Tecno for photos and the Infinix for speed.

Redmi vs Samsung: which is better?

At the same price, a Redmi will usually have a bigger battery, faster charging and more RAM. A Samsung will get more years of Android updates and usually sells for more when you want to upgrade. If you change phones every one or two years, Redmi gives you more for your money. If you keep phones for four years or more, Samsung is the better long-term buy.

At Mphones, Samsung phones also come with a 2-year warranty, compared with 13 months for other brands.
