Redmi Note 17 vs Note 17 Pro vs Note 17 Pro Max: specs compared

All three phones look alike, but they differ where it matters most: battery, charging speed, screen and price. Here are the key differences.

Battery and charging

• Redmi Note 17 Pro Max 5G: 10,000mAh battery, the biggest in any Xiaomi smartphone so far. Xiaomi says it can last up to three days.
• Redmi Note 17 Pro 5G: 8,340mAh battery with 67W fast charging.
• Redmi Note 17: 7,700mAh battery with 45W charging.

Even the cheapest model has a bigger battery than most phones in its price range. For anyone dealing with NEPA wahala or long days on the road around Port Harcourt, this is the main reason to choose the series.

Durability (“REDMI Titan”)

Xiaomi markets the series under its “Titan Quality” label. Xiaomi says it has water resistance that survives being under two metres of water for 72 hours, and drop resistance from up to three metres. A strong case is still a good idea, but this is better protection than most mid-range phones advertise.

Display

• Redmi Note 17: 6.99-inch FHD+ AMOLED with a 120Hz refresh rate and 240Hz touch sampling.
• Redmi Note 17 Pro 5G: 6.83-inch 1.5K AMOLED (2772 × 1280) with up to 120Hz, 12-bit colour and DCI-P3 colour gamut.
• Redmi Note 17 Pro Max 5G: up to 3,500 nits peak brightness, 12-bit colour and DCI-P3 colour gamut, so it is easy to read outdoors in the sun.

Memory, storage and network

The Note 17 comes in 6GB/128GB and 8GB/256GB. The Pro 5G and Pro Max 5G both come in 8GB/256GB and 8GB/512GB, and the Pro Max uses fast LPDDR5X RAM and UFS 4.1 storage. As the names show, the Pro and Pro Max support 5G. The Note 17 is the budget entry into the series.

Colours

• Pro Max: Cloud Blush, Green, Purple and Black.
• Pro: Sky Blue, Satin Orange, Purple and Black.
• Note 17: Celestial Purple, Sky Teal and Black.

Colour availability changes, so check the product page or ask us on WhatsApp before you order.

Which Redmi Note 17 should you buy?

Heavy users, gamers and hotspot users: Redmi Note 17 Pro Max 5G

If you stream, game or share your data as a hotspot every day, the 10,000mAh battery is worth the extra money. It is also the brightest screen of the three, with fast memory and storage. See the Redmi Note 17 Pro Max at Mphones, from ₦688,300.

Fast charging on a mid budget: Redmi Note 17 Pro 5G

The Pro gives you 67W fast charging, 5G and a sharp 1.5K AMOLED screen for about ₦138,000 less than the Pro Max. Its 8,340mAh battery is still very large. For most working-class buyers, this is the sweet spot. See the Redmi Note 17 Pro at Mphones, from ₦550,100.

Best value: Redmi Note 17

If you want the big battery and a big AMOLED screen without going above ₦450,000, the standard Note 17 makes sense. Its battery is the smallest of the three and it charges more slowly, but it is still a 7,700mAh phone. It is a good pick for students, parents and anyone upgrading from an older budget phone. See the Redmi Note 17 at Mphones, from ₦371,000.
